Insurance Specialist demonstrates medical insurance knowledge, providing patients with insurance information including specific benefit and plan coverage (HMO/PPO) . The insurance specialist is able verify patient insurance plans, communicating insurance information to involved departments and ensuring appropriate coverage and benefits for admissions.
Responsibilities and Duties
Completes verification of benefits for potential patients admitting for treatment.
Communicates with the admissions team on gaining patient information regarding the verification of their insurance benefits.
Explains insurance clauses, plans and policies.
Completes all necessary paperwork and contacts insurance companies/third parties to gain accurate information in determining whether the patient is eligible for insurance coverage.
Is knowledgeable about the insurance coverage and different types of insurance policies.
Is knowledgeable about PPO plans, COBRA, accreditation’s, claims and insurance-related items.
Reports information back to the admissions team within agreed time frames.
Adheres to company policies and procedures and standard operating procedures.
Attends meetings as required and works closely with colleagues, sharing new information with regards to insurance companies.
Other duties in relation to insurance verification as requested by their department manager.
Qualifications and Skills
The Insurance Verification Specialist should be a high school graduate or possess a GED. They should have good, clear communication skills in working with their colleagues and outside agencies. Attentive to detail and able to work effectively with minimal supervision, the Verification Associate will also have good computer skills.
